FAQ

Q: What is the difference between extraction ratios (e.g., 20:1) and standardized percentages (e.g., 30% Polyphenols)?

A: Ratio (20:1) indicates 20kg raw bark makes 1kg extract although potency is different with raw material crop. It is standardised ( 30 % Polyphenols ). It would be desirable for supplements to be standardised for clinical consistency, so that if the crops vary, the level of active chemicals would be guaranteed.

Q: Is your extract water soluble for Ready-To-Drink applications?

A: Yes, we do have a special grade of aqueous extraction. It is spray-dried with a minimum carrier to achieve >98% solubility in cold water with a clear solution and no sedimentation and is specifically intended for beverage compositions.

Q: What do you do with Coumarin in Cassia extracts?

A: Raw Cassia does contain Coumarin, but we use selective solvent filtration during extraction to considerably lower the Coumarin content compared to the raw spice, so often the finished extract is acceptable for daily supplementation with trace quantities of Coumarin.

Q: Is there anything in the powder to stop it caking?

A: Hygroscopicity is a somewhat prevalent problem. The standard specification may contain 2-5% Maltodextrin or Silicon Dioxide as a carrier to maintain stability. However, ‘Clean Label’ solutions without carriers are available, but require tight humidity control (<40% RH) during your production.

Q: How long can the shelf life be maintained, and what is the storage condition?

A: The product is good for 24 months. Both hydrolysis and oxidation are sensitive to polyphenols. Keep the product in airtight containers, preferably aluminium foil-lined, at a cool (<25°C) and dry environment away from direct light to avoid degradation of the active markers.
