Product Introduction
Blueberry Extract Powder is a concentrated phytochemical substance obtained from the fruit of Vaccinium oxycoccus by means of ethanol-water solvent extraction, followed by membrane filtering and spray-drying. The result is a normal purple powder with 25% anthocyanins, delivering a level of strength that raw blueberry fruit or plain fruit powder simply cannot compare with.
This form addresses three real challenges for formulators. First, the raw blueberries are powerful in many ways depending on the season and the origin. Secondly, fresh fruit is quite perishable, and it contains a lot of water. Third, simple fruit powders simply have too few active chemicals per gramme to be used in medicinal compositions.
This extract delivers the pterostilbene, anthocyanins and polyphenols from the parent fruit at exact doses in small volumes, a must for RTD beverages, capsules and tablets.
Third-Party Test Reports
Product quality checks are performed at numerous milestones – not only at final release. Each batch of our blueberry anthocyanin extract is tested both in-house and by authorised third-party agencies, including SGS and Eurofins.
Testing includes:
· UV spectrophotometry for anthocyanin determination
· HPLC fingerprint for anthocyanidin-specific profiling
· Pesticide residue detection (panel multi-residuos)
· Heavy metals (lead, arsenic, cadmium, mercury
· Microbiological safety (TPC, yeast, mould, pathogens)
• Documentation of natural origin and nutritional labels
Upon request we provide a full COA, MSDS and third-party test report for each shipment. We track batches from raw materials procurement to product shipment.
Blueberry Extract Powder Advantages
Standardized Active Content
UV technique confirms each batch locked at 25% anthocyanins. This means your formulation is delivering the same dose every time – no change from batch to batch.
Colour as a Mark of Quality
The extract is naturally purple and turns red under an acidic medium (pH <3) and blue-purple in neutral water. The observed pH response supports the presence of true natural anthocyanins and not synthetic pigments.
Solubility in Water
The spray dried powder has good cold water solubility and is appropriate for RTD beverage applications without the need for heating. It is advised to stir a little to prevent clumping.
Shelf Life Stability
Unlike fresh fruit, this extract remains active for 24 months if stored correctly, eliminating the seasonal supply difficulties associated with procuring raw blueberries.
Clean Label Friendly
No artificial additions. Certified Organic (EU/NOP) Kosher Halal & Vegan compliant with the broadest variety of supplement & food labelling regulations.

Application Scenarios
Dietary Supplements — Ocular and Cognitive Health
Anthocyanin Standardised Blueberry Extract used in softgels and capsules for eyesight assistance. It is a complement to Lutein and Zeaxanthin, which protect retinal cells from oxidative damage and blue-light exposure. Typical inclusion rate 50-200 mg per serving.
Drinks, Functional
The extract is water soluble therefore it’s used in sports recovery drinks and nootropic powder blends. For colour stability in beverages, formulate at pH < 3.5 to ensure the red-purple hue and avoid browning during shelf life.
BEAUTY FROM WITHIN & NUTRICOSMETICS
Blueberry extract anthocyanins are used in “beauty-from-within” sachets and topical serums to help block collagen degradation and regulate UV-induced oxidative damage, a burgeoning category in the premium beauty supplement industry.
Functional Foods
Blueberry anthocyanin extract is used in yoghurts, protein bars and health confectionary items as a natural colourant and source of useful polyphenol.

Production Process
Shaanxi Hongda produces each batch in a controlled multi-step process:
1. Raw Material Sourcing – Vaccinium oxycoccus fruit from supervised agricultural sites, checked for chemical residues before ingestion
2. Ethanol-Water Extraction Selective solvent method for the isolation of anthocyanins and related polyphenols
3. Membrane filtration – Removes non-target chemicals and concentrates the active fraction
4. Vacuum Concentration - reduces solvent content at controlled temperature to preserve heat sensitive anthocyanins
5. Spray Drying – Converts liquid concentration into a free flowing purple powder with uniform particle size
6. QC Testing and Release – HPLC, UV, heavy metal, microbiological and moisture testing prior to packaging
7. Packaging – Fibre drum sealed with double layer PE inner bag for moisture protection

FAQ
Q1: What is the difference between the UV 25% anthocyanin test and the HPLC test?
A: UV testing is measuring total absorption and will produce a higher result (25% for example). HPLC isolates the individual anthocyanidin molecules and generally gives a lower value (5–10%). Both are valid – but they are not directly comparable. Always check the process before you compare supplier specifications.
Q2: Is the product the same as Bilberry Extract?
A: No. Bilberry (V. myrtillus) is a different species, usually wild picked in Europe, with a different anthocyanidin profile and greater price. Blueberry extract (V. corymbosum / V. oxycoccus) is grown, more cost-accessible and contains similar antioxidant activity with a slightly altered HPLC fingerprint.
Q3: Why does the powder turn red in some drink recipes?
A: Anthocyanins are natural pH sensors . At pH below 3 they are crimson. At a neutral pH (~7) they turn purple or blue. This is typical and indicates that natural plant pigments are present, not a quality problem.
Q4: Can this extract be used in cold drinks without heating?
A: Yep. spray-dried powder is soluble in cold aqueous. Gentle agitation is advised to prevent clumping, particularly for powders subjected to humidity prior to mixing.
Q5: After opening, how should the powder be stored?
A: Store at a temperature below 25°C with a relative humidity less than 60% Reseal promptly under vacuum or nitrogen purge after opening. Due to the naturally existing fruit sugars the extract is hygroscopic (water attracting) and if left exposed will absorb moisture from the air.
Q6: What documentation are accessible for regulatory filing?
Q:What certificates do you have? A:COA, MSDS, Third party test reports (SGS/Eurofins), Kosher/Halal, Organic certificates, Non-GMO declaration More documentation, like nutritional labelling, natural origin reports, and precise optical rotation data, are available on request.
