Product Introduction

Broccoli Glucoraphanin (molecular formula: C 12 H 23 NO 10 S 3 , molecular weight: 437.51) is a water soluble glucosinolate and the stable biological precursor of Sulforaphane. It is a light yellow powder, mainly from broccoli seeds, which contain a far larger amount of glucoraphanin than mature broccoli florets or broccoli sprouts.

Glucoraphanin is chemically stable in normal supply chain conditions, unlike sulforaphane, a volatile oil that degrades rapidly on exposure to heat, light and oxygen. This constancy makes it the ingredient of choice for B2B formulators that want a consistent bioactive content batch after batch of manufacturing.

Inside the body, the myrosinase enzyme converts glucoraphanin to sulforaphane. Conversion can be done by the gut bacteria (10–40% conversion), or by adding exogenous myrosinase to formulations, which leads to higher and more constant conversion rates at the site of ingestion.

Q1: What are sulforaphane and glucoraphanin?

A: Glucoraphanin is the inactive precursor of glucosinolates and sulforaphane is the active isothiocyanate metabolite generated when glucoraphanin is converted by myrosinase. The shape is stable, however the extract turns into sulforaphane after you ingest it.

Q2: What is the appropriate dosage of capsule supplements?

A: The 10% and 13% grades are commonly used for regular strength capsules (about 400-600 mg). The 20% and 50% grades are useful for high-potency preparations in which capsule space is limited.

Q3: How do you test for glucoraphanin in your products?

A: Content is measured by HPLC using certified reference standards. Each batch report includes a chromatogram of the glucoraphanin with its unique retention time peak providing both identity and potency.

Q4: What is the thermal stability of the extract in application to beverages?

A: Yes. Glucoraphanin is stable up to 100 degrees Centigrade and is therefore amenable to hot fill beverage operations and conventional pasteurisation. Myrosinase enzyme denatures about 60 degrees Celsius and hence must be added separately after the processing.
