Chromium enriched yeast

What Is Chromium Enriched Yeast?

Chromium Enriched Yeast is a bioactive form of trivalent chromium (Cr3+) produced through microbial fermentation of Saccharomyces cerevisiae in a chromium-rich growth medium. Chromium combines with amino acids, proteins and polysaccharides in the yeast cell wall during fermentation to form an organic complex similar to the naturally occurring Glucose Tolerance Factor (GTF).

This structure is very different to the inorganic chromium salts e.g. chromium chloride. The organic binding significantly increases the absorption in the intestine and prolongs the retention time in the body. After fermentation, the yeast is pasteurised and spray-dried, killing the yeast. The final ingredient includes no live organisms and there is no risk of gas production or bloating in consumer products.

Third-Party Test Report

We test every batch of our chromium yeast thoroughly in house and by a third party before it ships. We partner with accredited laboratories such as SGS and Eurofins.

Testing includes:

· Chromium speciation: HPLC-ICP-MS study indicates non-detectable hexavalent chromium (Cr⁶⁺)

· Total chromium assay: Confirmed by Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS)

· Organic binding rate >95% of chromium proven to be organically bound

· Heavy metals: <10 ppm total heavy metals

· Microbiological safety: International food grade standards

· Pesticide residue: Tested to EU and US regulatory standards

· Moisture content: <6% to avoid caking during storage

Upon request, full test reports from 3rd parties are accessible before or after order.

Advantages of Chromium Yeast Over Other Chromium Sources

The correct chromium supply is important not just to product quality but also to regulatory compliance Here’s how yeast-bound chromium stacks up:

Improved bioavailability: the Cr3+ in yeast is coupled to amino acids and nicotinic acid in a form that closely resembles the native GTF. This gives you a superior absorption profile than chromium picolinate or chromium chloride.

No Cr⁶⁺ toxicity risk: strict aerobic fermentation conditions ensure only trivalent chromium is incorporated. Each batch is speciation tested to confirm that Cr⁶⁺ is not detected.

Processing stability: Stable in pH range 2–8 and up to 120°C. It can be used for extrusion, pasteurisation and high heat food processing without any loss of efficacy.

Clean label compatible: the yeast carrier is non-GMO, >40% protein and neutral flavour profile Used for clean label, vegan and organic product ranges.

Extended shelf life: Stability study demonstrates that potency remains stable for 24-36 months under conventional warehousing conditions, minimising waste and simplifying inventory management.

Production Process

Hongda’s chromium yeast is generated using a highly controlled biotransformation process:

1. Selection of raw materials: non-GMO Saccharomyces cerevisiae is selected as yeast carrier

2. Chromium enriched fermentation: Yeast is grown in a medium of trivalent chromium (Cr3+) under strict aerobic conditions

3. Cell wall binding: Organic interaction of chromium with proteins and polysaccharides in the yeast cell wall

4. Inactivation: Pasteurisation of the biomass entirely inactivates the yeast

5. Spray drying: Converted to a stable free flowing powder at 80-100 mesh

6. QC testing: Each batch undergoes speciation analysis, AAS chromium assay, heavy metal screening and microbiological testing prior to release

The whole procedure is operated in a purification workshop of 100,000 level, and it is fully traceable.

Application Scenarios

1. Metabolic Health Supplements

Used as the main active in capsule and tablet preparations for management of blood glucose and insulin sensitivity. A typical meal of 200 mcg of elemental chromium requires a 100 mg dosage with a 2,000 ppm standard — easy to prepare.

2. Functional Food & Meal Replacement

Its heat stability and neutral flavour make it a good choice for meal replacement shakes, protein bars and fortified cereals . It does not impact the flavour or texture during thermal processing.

3. Animal feeding

It is added to animal feed especially for pigs and poultry to promote leaner carcass composition, minimise stress during transportation and improve the reproductive performance of breeding sows by promoting carbohydrate metabolism.

FAQ

Q1: Is bound chromium (from yeast) more bioavailable than chromium picolinate?

A: Yeast-bound chromium is often more bioavailable and retained longer in the body. It complexes with amino acids and nicotinic acid in a very similar way to the native GTF structure, a property that inorganic forms cannot mimic .

Q2: Is there any risk of hexavalent chromium (Cr⁶⁺) in the end product?

A: No, not at all. In our aerobic fermentation method, we only use trivalent chromium (Cr3+). All batches were tested for speciation, using HPLC-ICP-MS, to ensure that Cr6+ was non-detectable

Q3. What is the dosage of a formula for blood sugar support?

A: Common formulation doses are around 200 mg of elemental chromium per serving. This equates to a 100 mg component dose per serving based on a 2,000 ppm specification.

Q4: Can chromium yeast be used in functional meals that are heat processed?

A: Yes. The ingredient is thermally stable up to 120°C, and is entirely suited for extrusion, baking and pasteurisation applications without loss of potency.

Q5: Is the yeast carrier in the final product active or inactive?

A: The yeast is completely inactivated in pasteurisation and spray drying. No live organisms are present therefore there is no fermentation activity, gas generation or bloating risk for end consumers.

Q6: What type of quality documents does Hongda supply for regulatory submission?

A: We can offer COA, MSDS, specification sheets, third party SGS/Eurofins test results, speciation analysis and certification copies. Custom paperwork available on request for specific market requirements.
