Baicalensis Root Extract Powder is a Standardised Botanical Extract derived from the dried roots of Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi (Chinese Skullcap). The main active ingredient is Baicalin, a flavonoid glycoside determined by HPLC, available in 80%, 85%, 90% and 98% concentrations.

The extract is a fine pale yellow to greenish-brown powder with typical little bitterness. It is soluble in alkaline solutions and only slightly soluble in alcohol, making the choice of solubilization procedure critical for formulations of products in aqueous media.

A: The root extract is standardised to Baicalin – a flavonoid glycoside and main marker compound. Baicalein is generated via hydrolysis as the aglycone (sugar-free) form. Baicalein has improved skin permeability and increased lipophilicity. Hongda delivers both kinds depending on your target delivery system. 

Q2: How to solubilize this extract in water based cosmetic formulations?

A: Baicalin has low water solubility at low pH. Pre-dissolve in Propylene Glycol or Butylene Glycol first or do pH of the formulation to neutral or slightly alkaline with Arginine or TEA in the aqueous phase to prevent precipitation.

Q3: Is your extract California Prop 65 compliant?
